Nantucket Community Sailing offers a full range of private and group sailing programs for children and adults of all ages, ability levels and interest between our Jetties Sailing Center and Polpis Harbor locations. In addition to our classes, Nantucket Community Sailing partners with other organizations to provide access to the water and sailing opportunities. To learn more please visit our Community Outreach Programs Page.
Life jackets (PFDs) are provided by NCS and required and worn properly at ALL times. Each NCS student should be comfortable in and around the water, with the ability to wear the PFD properly and follow instructions. Students may bring their own PFD (USCG Type III ONLY), should they choose. We ask that students wear appropriate shoes (closed-toe) when participating, Native Footwear, Keen, Crocs and old sneakers all work well. Private lessons may be also be booked on our Jetties Sailing Center website; lessons are offered Monday - Saturday.
Sailors with Disabilities:
Nantucket Community Sailing works with sailors of many ages, levels and abilities - both physical and emotional. We ask that parents of these sailors please be forthcoming with these needs so we can do our absolute best to ensure all of our students' sailing experiences are positive, successful, and safe. If your student has an IEP (Individualized Education Plan), Accommodation or Behavioral Plan, or if you have any specific recommendations for working successfully with your student, please contact our Program Director, Emily Taylor (email@example.com). Nantucket Community Sailing also runs a watersports partner class at our Jetties Sailing Center with Nantucket S.T.A.R. (Sports and Therapeutic Accessible Recreation) for students of all abilities.
NCS does not require a Membership to participate in sailing classes. However, we strongly encourage participants to purchase a Jetties Sailing Center Membership to take full advantage of sailing and water sports throughout the summer. A Jetties Sailing Center membership includes complimentary kayak, paddle board and sailboat rentals as well a 25% discount on all private lessons. Click here to learn more about membership.
Before you register for classes, here is some helpful information:
What programs are available through NCS?
NCS has a large number of programs available to sailors ages 2 and up. Please review our updated class descriptions and schedules and fees from the menu to the left. We strongly suggest you visit these pages to read about the many classes NCS offers before starting your registration process. By deciding what program(s) will best suit your sailor(s) ahead of time, you will have an easier time completing the registration application.
Do I need to set up an account?
Yes, first-timers will need to set up an account. This will allow you to view your account online, to see which programs you are registered for, if you have a balance, and make online payments. You will also be able to log-in at any time and add classes for the current season.
For which class should I register my sailor(s)?
Returning sailors who are recommended for a different class will receive communication from our Assistant Program Director in January. If you do not receive communication, you should register your sailor for the same class they took in the previous season. You may also call the NCS office to find out more information about your sailor's placement. If you have a new sailor or any other questions, please review our program progression chart to get a feel for how one might move through our programs based on age and experience level. Call our office at 508-228-6600 or email firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll be happy to help you find the best fit for your sailor.
How does the waitlist work?
If your name comes up on a waitlist we will try every contact method you provided. If we do not hear back from you within 24 hours, we will move to the next name on the waitlist. There is no fee to be added to a waitlist and you're not required to sign up if your name is called.
