Nantucket Community Sailing offers a full range of private and group sailing programs for children and adults of all ages, ability levels and interest between our Jetties Sailing Center and Polpis Harbor locations. In addition to our classes, Nantucket Community Sailing partners with other organizations to provide access to the water and sailing opportunities. To learn more please visit our Community Outreach Programs Page.
NCS programs are organized in compliance with all governmental (Federal, Massachusetts, and Town of Nantucket) safety regulations in force at the time of the session. Face coverings are required on shore at all times, and on the water when students are in a coach boat, or sailing in a boat with other students or coaches. Students will also be asked to wash their hands upon arrival, and follow all safety procedures. On the first day of each new session, students will have a basic swim check. While life jackets are provided and required, each NCS student should be comfortable in and around the water and have basic swimming skills. Students may bring their own PFD (USCG Type III), should they choose. We ask that students wear appropriate shoes (closed-toe) when participating, Native Footwear, Keen, Crocs and old sneakers all work well. Private lessons may be also be booked on our Jetties Sailing Center website; lessons are offered Monday - Sunday.
Sailors with Special Needs:
Nantucket Community Sailing works with sailors of many ages, levels and abilities - both physical and emotional. Sometimes our sailors have special needs. We ask that parents of these sailors please be forthcoming with these needs so we can do our absolute best to ensure all of our students' sailing experiences are positive, successful, and safe. If your student has an IEP (Individualized Education Plan), Accommodation or Behavioral Plan, or if you have any specific recommendations for working successfully with your student, please contact our Program Director, Emily Taylor (firstname.lastname@example.org). Nantucket Community Sailing also runs a watersports partner class at our Jetties Sailing Center with Nantucket S.T.A.R. (Sports and Therapeutic Accessible Recreation) for students with special physical and emotional needs.
As a membership based organization, NCS requires that any student who participates in a NCS youth program becomes a member. The standard membership is a youth student membership for $75, if you have multiple children you may purchase a youth family membership for $200. Both of these memberships can be purchased at the time of registration. Included in your membership is a 25% discount off rentals at our Jetties Sailing Center for the student when accompanied by a parent. If your family plans to use the Jetties Sailing Center regularly for rentals and lessons, NCS recommends a Jetties Sailing Center Family membership for $850, which includes free rentals as well as discounts on lessons. If a student's account is found to not have an active NCS membership in place for the current season, NCS will add the minimal membership level ($75) to the incomplete account. Accounts without proper memberships may be at risk for losing their spot within the NCS program. Click here to learn more about membership.
