Wednesday Night PHRF races are a "fun" series designed to get sailors out on the water improving racing skills.
Each evening is generally two races, one lap around a windward/leeward course of about 1 nautical mile. The start area, depending on conditions, is 1 nautical mile northeast of the entrance to Nantucket Harbor. First gun is at 1800 (6:00PM), so plan to leave the harbor by 1700 (5:00 PM.) Generally, we will be finished by dusk and back in the harbor between 7:30-8PM. It is highly recommended that sailors have running lights, a lantern and a GPS on board in the event of fog or dark.
The race committee monitors Channel 72 and will be found anchored on the starting line in a small powerboat after 5:30.
Boats may sail with or without spinnakers with a handicap adjustment for non-spinnaker boats. If a boat does not have an official PHRF rating, use these references to determine an approximate rating:
IOD's with spinnakers use 144, and without spinnakers use 156.
Alerions use 180.
but there is no registration fee. There will be a social gathering at Great Harbor Yacht Club to announce results at about 8:30PM. Please wear a clean collared shirt.
