Windsurfing Clinic (ages 10-15)
November 10, 2015
Windsurfing Clinic at Jetties Sailing Center is for students ages 10-15. Combining aspects of sailing and surfing on a one-person craft called a sailboard; windsurfing is an excellent way to learn or improve sailing skills; and to learn board control, balance, water starts, and planned jibes. Class size is limited to four students per session and students should be at least 75lbs and 4'5". We make every attempt with wind conditions to get students on the water safely, but if it is too windy to be on the water, students will work on balancing techniques, rigging demonstrations and chalk-talk sessions on-shore. Students may also head out in a reefed sailboat (Reefing improves the performance of sail boats in strong winds, and is the primary safety precaution in rough weather.) to talk about points of sail in a more controlled and stable setting, with the instructor on-board.
We encourage students to bring a snack and water for an 11am break. We ask that students wear appropriate shoes (closed toe) when participating in the Windsurfing Clinic, Native Footware, Keen, Crocs, old sneakers all work well.
The Windsurfing Clinic runs Monday - Friday from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at the Jetties Sailing Center. We recommend two weeks of sign-ups in order for students to gain the most improvement from their class.
Please note: Group windsurfing lessons are available upon request. Please call the JSC directly to book a group lesson for up to 4 students. ($75/hr for the first sailor, $50/hr for additional sailors.
