In addition to our regular scholarship program, NCS is excited to provide two additional scholarships to four year-round residents: The Meg Blair Scholarship and the Alan I. Newhouse Scholarship.

""

The Dr. Margaret H. ("Meg") Blair Sailing Scholarship was established in 2019 to honor, into perpetuity, Meg's passion for the water and for teaching children, through sailing, the empowerment that learning the power and the beauty of the sea provides. Meg was an avid sailor and fisherman, and loved every moment spent on Nantucket's waters. The Dr. Margaret H. ("Meg") Blair Scholarship is available to two year-round Nantucket youth each year, for up to four weeks of sailing. Applicants are required to complete a general scholarship application. Upon receiving all scholarship applications, NCS will select two students to receive this funding. If a student is selected for this scholarship, s/he will be required to write a thank-you note to Dr. Blair's family, in care of Nantucket Community Sailing.

Alan I. Newhouse was an avid Nantucket sailor and one of the founders of Nantucket Community Sailing. His passion was watching young children learn to sail in Polpis Harbor and he often took NCS donors and friends out to Polpis for them to see the children in action. To honor Alan, and establish a permanent recognition of him and his love for sailing, the Alan I. Newhouse Scholarship was established in 2008. The Alan I Newhouse Scholarship is available to two year-round youth each year, for up to four weeks of sailing in Polpis Harbor. Applicants will be chosen by NCS, and are required to complete a general scholarship application. If a student is selected for this scholarship, s/he will be required to write a thank-you note to Mr Newhouse's family, in care of Nantucket Community Sailing.
