NCS Program Details
Opti Green (ages 8-12)
November 16, 2019
Students who have progressed through our Whalers class or who have had prior experience in the Opti, are invited into our Opti Green class. This class, taught in SailCubes (plastic Optimist sailboats), gives students the opportunity to try sailing independently.
The two-week class will often be split into two or more groups that cater to individual students' skill level and progression. The ultimate goal of the Opti Green is for sailors to sail an "Opti" or SailCube single-handedly. Focus is on expanding the concepts of the Whalers Class, introducing the basic concepts of racing, and building confidence through both games and basic drills.
The Opti Green Class will be held at Polpis Harbor, Monday - Friday mornings from 9:15 AM - 11:45 AM and Monday - Friday afternoons from 12:45 PM - 3:15 PM.
Please note: NCS recommends four weeks of Opti Green programming for students to excel through the curricula.
On the first day of each new session, students will have a basic swim check. While life jackets are provided and required, each NCS student should be comfortable in and around the water and have basic swimming skills. Students may bring their own PFD (USCG Type III), should they choose. We ask that students wear appropriate shoes (closed-toe) when participating, Native Footwear, Keen, Crocs and old sneakers all work well. Private lessons may be also be booked on our Jetties Sailing Center website; lessons are offered Monday - Saturday.
