Community Outreach Programs
NCS is Proud to Support our Local Community
Nantucket Community Sailing works in partnership with many local non-profits to offer free sailing and watersports activities to youth and adult members of the Nantucket community, outside of our regular programming. Through our many partnerships, students of all ages can learn to sail, paddleboard, kayak, and windsurf.
To participate in our outreach programming, we ask that you please contact the individual organizations listed below:
Adam's Camp is a non-profit based in Colorado that offers programs for children with special needs, as well as their family members. NCS has worked with Adam's Camp since 2012 and teams up with Adam's Camp New England/Nantucket at the Jetties Sailing Center in June to offer students and their families an opportunity to enjoy kayaking and paddleboarding. For more information, please visit Adam's Camp
NCS and Nantucket S.T.A.R. (Sports and Therapeutic Accessible Recreation) team up at the Jetties Sailing Center throughout the summer to work with students with special needs. Programming is held on Friday afternoons in July and for two week in August. NCS also works with the Adam's Camp for one day in June. Students work with instructors and volunteers to enjoy kayaking, paddleboarding and sometimes windsurfing. For more information, please visit Nantucket S.T.A.R and contact Tina Steadman.
The Independence 20' was custom designed so that even the most disabled sailor can handle the boat. Seats are designed to give participants access to steering the boat, grinding winches and trimming sails. Families, friends and medical professionals are encouraged to join, as the boat can accommodate up to five participants and one instructor. There is no charge for the Sail To Prevail - Nantucket Program. Sail to Prevail's Independence 20' sailboat can be found in Nantucket's Boat Basin. For more information, please visit Sail To Prevail's website.
NCS and the Nantucket Boys and Girls Club work together at the Jetties Sailing Center every Monday and Thursday afternoon in the summer season. Students take sailing lessons with NCS instructors, and learn to kayak. NCS also invites between 5 - 10 Boys and Girls Club students to participate in our regular youth programming each summer through our scholarship program. For more information, please visit Nantucket Boys and Girls Club
In 2013, the Saltmarsh Senior Center joined forces with NCS to offer "Sails for Old Salts." These outings, on our 35' keelboats (J/105s), have been tremendously successful and popular. The sails leave from the Children's Beach Public Boat Ramp in town and are generally held six dates each season in the early evening. For more information, please contact Laura Stewart at the Nantucket Saltmarsh Senior Center. (508) 228-4490.
NCS has worked with PASCON for the past several years to offer therapeutic sails on our 35' keelboats (J/105s). These sails are generally held from 1:30 - 4:30pm in the summer months. For more information, please contact PASCON.
Fairwinds is a Nantucket counseling center that "provides confidential, quality professional care to adults and youth who seek mental health and addiction services." Nantucket Community Sailing and Fairwinds teamed up beginning of 2018 to offer kayak and paddling vouchers for Fairwinds-affiliated members and families to join us at our Jetties Sailing Center.
