Nantucket Race Week recognizes Clean Harbor Award recipients
August 7, 2010

Nantucket Race Week co-chairs Susan Wayne and Steve Caulfield, with Clean Regatta chair Matt Dwyer, and Clean Harbor Award Chair Jean Grimmer, are pleased to announce the new NANTUCKET RACE WEEK CLEAN HARBOR AWARD.     The award, established this year as part of the 7th Annual Nantucket Race Week, and sponsored by Carlin Contracting, recognizes the outstanding work and achievements of individuals, organizations or businesses that have actively contributed to preserving and improving the water quality of Nantucket's harbors, ponds, wetlands, and watershed areas, thus embodying the spirit of what Nantucket Race Week is attempting to achieve with its clean regatta initiatives.    For 2010, an Honor Roll of organizations was established, and the Nantucket organizations listed below were recognized at an awards ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 7 at Nantucket Yacht Club.

Nantucket Race Week became a clean regatta in 2009, inspired by its title sponsor, reMain Nantucket. Nantucket Race Week was awarded bronze and silver level clean regatta certifications by Sailors for the Sea, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the world's oceans.  NRW has worked with Sailors for the Sea to earn gold level certification in 2010.

Nantucket Race Week, August 7-15, 2010, is hosted by Nantucket Yacht Club and Great Harbor Yacht Club to benefit Nantucket Community Sailing, a non-profit organization that provides affordable sailing instruction and access to the water for the community.   Nantucket Community Sailing will teach 1000 children to sail this summer, and their curriculum instills important life lessons of teamwork, discipline, and respect for the marine environment.

Carlin Contracting has been a sponsor of Nantucket Race Week since 2007, and their vision for environmental leadership helped create this award.    Carlin Contracting (www.carlincontracting.com) is a leader in environmental construction, and is ranked as one of the Top 100 Environmental Firms in the country.
