GHYC Practice Racing
4:00pm - 6:30pm Every Thursday (except Aug 17th)
The practice races are open to both NYC and NCS sailors. All sailors can register directly through GHYC for the July and/or August Series for $100 per month. All competitors will be scored and qualify for GHYC daily awards. If you need a boat, please register for the Thursday Rhodes Racing. Your racing fee will be covered by the registration for the class.
3:30pm - Skippers Meeting at Jobson Sailing Center. Listen for course announcements on VHF Ch. 71 and consult your course map (available at GHYC). NCS sailors registered for Thursday Rhodes Racing will not attend the Skipper's Meeting and instead will meet at the Jetties Sailing Center at 3:30pm.
3:45pm - Transport to boats and rigging
4:30pm - Warning Signal - Alerion
4:45pm - Warning Signal – Rhodes
5:00pm - Warning Signal H12/Haven
7:00pm - Daily Awards at GHYC Fuel Bar - everyone welcome, please see below:

All NYC and NCS sailors will have privileges at the Fuel Bar and the Grill Room Bar on Thursdays only. Guests are to provide their name, affiliation and audit number to the bartender. Thursday sailors have access to the GHYC launch but do not have access to the parking lot.
GHYC Advanced Race Clinic
These half-day clinics are for advanced-intermediate sailors who are already racing or are interested in racing in the Saturday One Design Series. There will be four guest speakers from both on and off-island who will speak on topics in their field of expertise. While the most of the clinics will use Rhodes 19's for on-the-water drills, there is one clinic for H12/Haven and possibly one for Alerions (TBD). Sailors can sign up for a crew position and will be placed on board as spots are available. The Classroom sessions are open to all sailors island-wide. Classroom only $25, On-the-water drills $25.
1:00-2:00 Classroom Speaker/Discussion
2:00-4:00 On-the-water practice/race drills covering things such as: ·
- team racing
- sail trim
- boat speed
- spinnaker hoists, dowses and proper trim of the spinnaker
- mark rounding drills
- practice starts
- upwind and downwind tactics
July 3 (Thursday) - Panel discussion w/local experts: Skip Willauer (Rhodes 19), Steve Caulfield (Marshall Cat) and Ian McNeice (Indian & IOD) then regular Thursday Races. **This begins at 3pm.
July 11- Team Race Clinic w/speaker Gary Jobson plus on-the-water drills (GHYC Rhodes 19's only). Non-members can sign up and be placed on boats upon availability, or attend the classroom portion only.
July 18 – Upwind and Downwind Strategy and Tactics w/speaker Mike Ingham (J24 National Champion and North U Coach). Classroom only – 1:00-3:00pm.
July 25 - Herreschoff Rig Tune and Sail Trim Clinic w/Ben Sperry (Herreshoff Sailmaker) and George Moffett (H12 National Champion) – Non-boat owners can sign up individually and be placed on boats upon availability, or attend the classroom portion only.
August 1 - Rhodes 19 On-the-Water-Drills – Practice Starts, Upwind Speed
August 8 - Strategy and Tactics w/ Bill Gladstone, President of North U. On- the-water-drills.
August 22 - Team Racing - On the Water Drills and Scrimmage
